The Vision
Each of us carries unique expressions and interpretations of what kindness represents, whether this be because of our childhood experiences, cultural background, or even geographical location. If we embrace this understanding with awe and see that our special expressions of kindness bring us together, our world will be a little kind-er. Global Warm Fuzzies encourages us citizens to be on the lookout for kindness in a variety of spaces from cafés to schools to hospitals. We can recognize these deeds with a movement of colorful Kindness Walls across the world. Let's lift each other up, one act of kindness at a time!
Where It All Began
In honor of World Kindness Day on November 13th, my elementary and middle school spent a week on the hunt for kindness, lifting each other up through the recognition of kind deeds across all grade levels from Transitional Kindergarten (TK) - 8th Grade. Throughout the week, students stopped by the table and scribbled down acts of kindness they had witnessed in others on colorful notecards. Then, they dropped them into the corresponding grade level's decorated mailbox. Kind deeds that occurred both on and off-campus were recognized, from receiving help on a homework problem to seeing a classmate comfort a sorrowful friend. Even faculty and staff participated!
No names were used on the cards, which encouraged each of us to place value on the kind deed itself. Soon, a sectioned-off portion of the main school hallway became a haven for kindness, bursting in an array of vibrant notecards and recognizing each student at our school for the kindness they had shared with those around them.
In this single week, all of us were encouraged to demonstrate kindness solely to lift up the rest of the student body, not to receive recognition. It became apparent that each of us felt such joy seeing our school community grow closer and closer, from the tiniest six-year-olds to the oldest teenagers, one act of kindness at a time.
